Tattoo?
Today’s question is: Why would anyone get a tattoo on their boob?
Background: We are hanging out in greater Cincinnati this week, enjoying the town and sites as we have for the past 7 years. Paul’s dad grew up in Cincinnati. Paul’s Uncle Jim and 8 of his 10 kids all still live in Cincy. We come every year to visit with our namesakes clan.
So today, we went to Coney Island Park in Cincinnati. Last year was the first time we had ever been to this park and I have to say it was an enormous hit with the kids, they begged to go again. So we went. As we were playing in the pool, a woman caught my eye. This lady had on a black bathing suit that showed a rather enormous tattoo on her left breast. It was softball size. Who would get a softball size tat on her breast? I mean wouldn’t that hurt like hell?
I’ve noticed that tattoos seem to be all the rage, but seriously all I can think of is pain, pain, pain.
Do they hurt? And if so, is the ‘beauty’ in the tat more overpowering than the pain?

Now that is a stumper! I haven't been able to figure the whole tattoo craze out either, but to have one there……………..

It's so nice to see someone else who is puzzled by tattoos. I think they are really unattractive. I tell my kids no tattoos as log as they live under my roof.

Dee you are nicer than I, I don't come out and say no tattoos (the kids are all under 10, so that's just not an option), but if you watch Idol, there was this gal, Megan who made the final 13 with tattoos all the way down one arm. I would say to the kids, oh she'd be so much prettier if she didn't have those tattoos all down her arm. Then I'd say can you imagine how much it hurt to get those? (I'd explain that the die has to be inserted into the skin with some needle type device). I'm so mean, I really hope the fad fades.

As you very well know, I have none, nor would I get one. One of my dear friends does and she swears it hurt like heck and would never do it again (she was 18 when she got it). I have other friends who say it doesn't matter…it's worth it. I also know people who say tattoos are addictive. Beats me!
And – I always point out to my kids how unattractive they are!

We talked to you before about posts like this…Where's the picture???

hahaha, the picture, well last I checked I'd have to be out of my mind to enter one of the largest recirculating pools in the world with my slr or my blackberry. I guess I could have hunted her down around the pool but you've never seen a place like this before, check out the website. Also, my family just *might* think I'm crazy if I did that! LOL I'll try next time.

The pain is short term, the tattoo is long term.
What you left out of your post (all rhetorical questions):
What was the size and shape of her boob, what was the exact location of the tattoo, what was her skin condition like, how old did she appear to be, where in her childbearing cycle do you think she was, what was the design of the tattoo, which all leads to the question of what is the likelihood of the tattoo becoming grossly elongated and wrinkled as she ages, and what will that look like.
Could be an "ok," could be an "omg!"

I don't think tattoos are a "fad." Sometimes I'm curious over the places people choose to put a tattoo, but I'm not curious about the tattoo itself. I personally think they can be really gorgeous and yes, THEY ARE ART. My God, the work and talent that goes into tattoos is INSANE.
Wondering why people get tattoos is like wondering why people get plastic surgery. It's all about self-image and what makes you feel good about yourself.
I don't think I'd ever tell my kids they couldn't do something to their own body. But I would stress the importance of BEING SURE before you did something so permanent. I've had my tattoo for almost 7 years. I still love it. I've never regretted it. I'd get more if I could decide where to put them.
Now, you want to talk the Bible and the whole "body is a temple" thing, then we're really getting into a debate.

Anonymous: Too many questions about the tattoo for me to answer. She was a bigger lady, she had on a halter style tankini and the tattoo stuck out, I have no idea what it was because I caught glimpse of her when she was jumping with her child off the platform. She was definitely a mom but was she my age? Who knows. Maybe younger than I (under 40).
Chocolate and whine: Well, tattoos probably aren't a fad, putting them over every inch of your body? Maybe. I had a friend growing up who's parents would go to hawaii every year and come back with matching tattoos to remember the trip (they went without the 5 kids). It was always something small and personal in a spot that was not easily seen. I have a friend that has a cool snake tattoo on her ankle/foot (but man oh man I think it hurt). A good friend of our family has one on her lower back and my kids saw it when she took them to the pool once, it was a big deal to them and they talked to her about it. She said to them that she got it when she was 18 and she actually wishes she never did, which is the perfect example of BEING SURE. She was young and things change. But you are right, tattoos are art and man some of them are absolutely amazing. Personally I do not care for the huge ones that encompass large portions of the body. I have friends that have meaningful ones that they love and are very happy with. You are completely right about the figuring out why someone does something though, whatever floats their boat.

I'm not so sure a tattoo on your boob would hurt…it's mostly fat. I heard they hurt on bony areas. Not that I will ever find out!

I like a good tattoo. I'm from Southern Ca where tattoos are fairly common. I don't think much about them other than to suggest you get it where it could be covered up. I don't have any real tattos but I do have 5 tiny dots that they gave me or radiation… and they hurt.
